IE8 – why Microsoft may not call it IE Desktop Online Web Browser Live Professional Ultimate Edition for the Internet

Posted on 21 March 2008 by Russ

Well, the Beta version of IE8 was released not too long ago. I don’t really use IE, except when testing new design, but I thought I would give it a whirl, just to see what some of the new things MS was coming up with. Although my wife loves it, I don’t foresee myself making the switch from Firefox to IE. I did find some funny topics on the IE blog on MSDN.

A couple of benefits to using the new and improved Microsoft browser

  • ACR: Automatic Crash Recovery – automatically reloads previously open tabs upon a crash.
  • Better support for activities like e-baying.
  • Increased add on and extension support.
  • Resize and resolution settings are remembered on next launch.

As for the draw backs, well, let me just sum it up by saying this, you would be better off waiting until IE 9 comes out, then upgrade to IE8! or just get Firefox. For one, upgrading to IE8 Beta, actually crashed my Firefox install. I’m not sure how it happened, but after the restart, I could not launch either browser. That Microsoft for you. Thankfully I had Opera installed, so I could download a new version of FF. If you are upgrading to IE8, please send me your email ad phone number so I can refer you to a PC support person I know.

Happy Browsing!
